Lincoln — No Limits, Nebraska’s youth-led tobacco prevention movement, has selected 10 Nebraska teens to serve on its youth leadership board for 2013–2014.
No Limits Youth Board members determine priorities for the program and plan statewide anti-tobacco events. The board encourages and assists local groups in organizing activism projects in their own schools and communities.
Davita Dick brings six years of No Limits experience to the board. “I’ve learned a lot about how Big Tobacco tries to hook teens on their products,” said Dick. “As a member of the No Limits board I can use my experience to raise awareness across the state.”
Dick is a senior at O’Neill High School where she participates in drill team, golf, National Honor Society and Irish dance. She’s the daughter of Sherwin and Dee Dick.
Bryce Anderson is a junior at Ewing High School and is involved in Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and plays basketball. This will be his fifth year as a member of No Limits.
Madison Larimore has been involved with No Limits for two years, and this will be her second year on the youth leadership board. Larimore is a junior at Bellevue West High School where she’s a member of West Welcomers and art club. She’s the daughter of Mark and Carmen Larimore.
Ty Sawyer of O’Neill High School joins the board after four years in No Limits. “I’m looking forward to helping lead No Limits this year,” said Sawyer. “We have some new ideas and fresh approaches to sharing our message about resisting tobacco.” Sawyer is a junior and runs cross country and wrestles. He’s the son of Brent and Deb Sawyer as well as Mark and Brenda Harrison.
Sheri Crosier is a junior at Kearney High School and will serve her second year on the No Limits board. She has three years of experience in the program. Crosier is the daughter of William Crosier and is a junior member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Autumn Reineke, a sophomore at Wheeler Central High School, recently joined No Limits and wasted no time in seeking a leadership role. Reineke is an officer in her school’s chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and active in speech, drama, band and choir. She’s the daughter of Bill and Liza Reineke.
Malcolm High School sophomore Kiley Carroll is also new to No Limits. Her involvement in speech and drama will help her be an effective advocate for anti-tobacco initiatives. Carroll also participates in trap shooting and softball. She’s the daughter of Doug and Sheila Carroll.
Cecilia Ponce is a freshman at Hartington Public High School where she plays several sports and participates in band and choir. Ponce is the daughter of Martin Ponce, Carey Ponce and Brian Kleinschmit.
Maria Basilio is a freshman at Wilber-Clatonia High School where she participates in volleyball, basketball and track. Basilio is also active in Future Farmers of America and 4-H. She’s the daughter of Otto Aragon and Olga Alarcon.
Leila Alohaid is a freshman at Lincoln Southeast High School and is enrolled in the Lincoln Entrepreneurship Focus Program. Alohaid is on the swim team, and enjoys the culinary arts and babysitting. She is the daughter of Annette Alohaid, and is in her first year of No Limits.
“No Limits is fortunate to have a combination of experienced leaders and new faces on the youth leadership board,” said Jessi Huenink, No Limits project coordinator. “Each member knows the impact tobacco use can have on young people, and they are all committed to fighting Big Tobacco’s influence on youth.”
